In recent years , an estimated 1000 European companies have invested around EUR 130 billion to the Indonesian economy and directly employs 1.1 million people in indobesia.
Although Indonesia is the largest economy in ASEAN , but the overall bilateral trade between the
Europe - Indonesia reached a record high of USD 25 billion, still far below some other neighboring countries in Southeast Asia ( Singapore - EUR 52 billion , Malaysia - EUR 35 billion and Thailand-EUR 32 billion) .
Furthermore , although the EU is one of the largest sources of foreign direct investment ( FDI ) for Indonesia during the period 2004 to 2010 , Indonesia received only 1.6 % of all EU FDI into Asia , and only 6 % of all EU investment flows to
ASEAN region . Based on this background of Indonesian and European business leaders stressed that it was time to add to the commercial value of the strategic partnership between the Europe and Indonesia to move towarCEPA.
